SM Energy (SM) said that the company has drilled a well on its acreage in the Niobrara Shale. The Atlas 1-19H well is located in the Silo Field in Wyoming.
SM Energy, which was formerly known as St. Mary Land and Exploration, drilled the well to a total vertical depth of 8000 feet to an area of the Niobrara Shale that is naturally fractured. The well has produced 13,000 barrels of oil during the drilling of the lateral portion of the Atlas 1-19H even though the well was not hydraulically fractured.
SM Energy plans to hydraulically fracture the well during May 2010. The company has leased 25,000 net acres in the area that are prospective for the Niobrara Shale.
