Devon Energy Reports Recent Niobrara Activity

Devon Energy (DVN) reported the results of a recent well drilled and completed in the Niobrara play on its acreage.  The company said that the Waterbuck 2342 was drilled into the Turner Formation and produced an average of 427 barrels of oil equivalent per day during the first 22 days of production.

Devon Energy has acreage prospective for the Niobrara in both the Denver Julesburg and Powder River Basin. The company plans to exit 2012 with 35 total wells drilled into the Cordell, Mowry, Frontier and other formations.

Gulfport Energy Reports On Recent Niobrara Activity

Gulfport Energy (GPOR) reported on the company’s activity in the Niobrara play in 2011.  The company drilled three gross or 1.5 net wells into the Niobrara and said that all three wells produced oil at commercial rates.  The wells were open hole wells completed without stimulation.

Gulfport Energy recently finished conducting a 60 square mile three dimensional seismic survey of the Niobrara at the Craig Dome prospect. The company is analyzing the results of the survey and plans to start drilling here in May 2012.

Quicksilver Resources Updates Niobrara Activity in Sandwash Basin

Quicksilver Resources (KWK) has 210,000 net acres in the Sandwash Basin in Colorado that is prospective for the Niobrara Shale. The company has drilled and completed six producing wells to date into the Niobrara.

Quicksilver Resources drilled its first horizontal well into the Niobrara Shale in the fourth quarter of 2011. The well produced at an initial rate of 500 barrels of oil per day, and 230 barrels of oil equivalent per day during the first 45 days of production.

Quicksilver Resources plans to drill seven horizontal wells into the Niobrara in 2012.
