Gulfport Energy (GPOR) announced that it has entered the Niobrara Shale play through the acquisition of 24,468 acres of leasehold. The acreage is located in Moffat and Rio Blanco County in Colorado, and Gulfport Energy paid $7.75 million for the leases.
Gulfport Energy said that the acreage has 900,000 barrels oil equivalent (BOE) of proved reserves, and production of 45 BOE per day. The previous owner of this Niobrara Shale acreage drilled only 3 vertical non-fractured wells on the properties.
